Critter's Crusade, Inc. is a nonprofit organization, based in White River Junction, Vermont, dedicated to raising addiction awareness and facilitating education, recovery, and rehabilitation programs through our fundraising efforts.
Incorporated in early 2015 after the overdose death of 21-year-old Christopher "Critter" Scott-Smith on October 2, 2014, a small group of his family and friends began discussing the prevalence of the opioid epidemic in our community and decided to dedicate our efforts to help conquer addiction in the Upper Valley.
WHAT WE DO
ANNUAL CONQUERING ADDICTION 5K
On October 3, 2015, we held our 1st Annual 5K and raised $7500 for The Turning Point of the Upper Valley (a local addiction resource center). Every year thereafter, we hold our Annual Conquering Addiction 5K to benefit our Conquering Addiction Fitness Fund.
The Conquering Addiction Fitness Fund was established in 2016 as a tool to aid participants in their addiction recovery program. Regular exercise and physical fitness have been found to be of great benefit to the recovery process. The Fitness Fund provides eight weeks of personalized training sessions and gym membership for participants already taking part in a reputable treatment program at no cost to them. Upon successful completion, participants are offered continued gym membership at a steeply discounted rate.

RAISING AWARENESS AND REDUCING STIGMA
Throughout the year we take part in community gatherings such as The Hartford Community Coalition Block Party and The Hartford Police Department's National Night Out event. We also help organize the annual Hartford, Vermont Overdose Awareness Candlelight Vigil. These events help us connect with our diverse community and spread awareness, not only of addiction- but of how it affects the community as a whole and the families dealing with addiction issues on a daily basis. Our goal is to reduce the stigma which keeps so many people struggling with Substance Use Disorder, and their loved ones, from seeking help.
